길거리에 지도를 펴들고 뭔가를 찾으며 자기네들끼리 얘기하는 외국인들을 자주 쉽게 목격한다.

우리네들은 어떤가, 지도를 아예 필요로하지도 않고 지도가 삶의 필수 요소로 생각는 사람 전혀

도 없다. 그냥 마구잡이로 이리저리 헤메다 주변에 물어보구 방향을 정한다 내 손에 지도가

있으면 중국집 가방맨처럼 번지까지도 찾아 간다 이런 행동이 우리 삶에 미치는 영향은 거의

지구적이다 자, 이제는 우리도 지도를 생활화해보자비행기를 타고 세계를 날든 자동차로 출장을

떠나든 자전거로 일정목적을 수행하든...

Pointing at the Map

"Frank, this doesn't look right to me. We should have turned left."
"No, no, this is the right way. I recognize that tree."
"But we're in a state park. There are trees everywhere. Why didn't you get a map?"

We hate to say it, but your wife has a point, Frank. A well-drawn map can get you from point A to point B with a minimum number of what you call "shortcuts." Prepared travelers (52% of which are female, by the way) keep "maps" among our top 50 searches, and those with destinations properly planned keep specific map searches spread out across the dashboard.

We thumbed through the Search atlas for info on which maps help travelers, tourists, and hobos find their way. Not surprisingly, with the recent Katrina disaster, searches on "new orleans map," "louisiana map," and "mississippi map" have surged, though old favorites like "united states map," "satellite maps," and "map of europe" remain popular. Regretfully, searches on "treasure maps" aren't nearly as numerous as we'd hoped. More booty for the pirates, we suppose
