100년째 군주제 부탄 2008년 첫 민주적 총선

부탄의 지그메 싱계 왕추크(50) 국왕이 2008년 왕위에서 물러나고 첫 민주적 총선거를 실시할 것이라고 부탄 관영신문 쿠엔셀이 18일 보도했다. 왕추크 국왕은 이날 “2008년에 왕세자에게 왕위를 물려주고 의회민주주의 체제 아래서의 정부를 구성하기 위해 첫 총선을 실시하겠다”고 말했다. 그러나 새 정부의 구체적인 형태와 왕실이 계속 갖게 되는 권력에 대해서는 자세하게 언급하지 않았다. 인구 70만명의 불교 국가인 부탄은 100년째 군주제를 이어오고 있다. 1972년 즉위한 왕추크 국왕은 몇 년 전부터 자신이 직접 나서 왕정 종식과 다당제 민주주의 도입을 점진적으로 추진해왔다. 최근 몇 달간 국민에게 알린 헌법 초안에 따르면 국왕은 국가원수가 되며,양원제로 구성되는 의회에서 의원 3분의 2 이상이 찬성할 경우 국가원수를 탄핵할 수 있다.

100 years Kingdom of Bhutan
In 1907, after several centuries of divided rule by various influential families, his majesty Gongsar Ugyen

Wangchuck unified Bhutan under the name of Druk Yul ? Land of the Thunder Dragon. The year 2007 will

mark 100 years of monarchy in Bhutan. But as the year 2007 is a very inauspicious year according to the Bhutanese

calendar it will be only in 2008 that Bhutan will celebrate the 100 years of Kingdom. Many festivals and much
